Rivercrest Care Centre
Overlooking the spectacular North Saskatchewan River, Rivercrest Care Centre has a longstanding history of providing safe, high-quality continuing care services in the City of Fort Saskatchewan. We are a contracted long term care service provider with Alberta Health Services, and are a short 15-minute drive from northeast Edmonton and Sherwood Park. Rivercrest is nestled within walking distance to the downtown core of Fort Saskatchewan which creates ease of access to shopping and professional offices – perfect for family outings.
In the 2020 Health Quality Council of Alberta survey, Rivercrest ranked in the top 20% of all care facilities in the Edmonton region; in 2017, the Health Quality Council of Alberta ranked Rivercrest 7th in the entire Edmonton region.
We understand and appreciate the value and importance of family participation and family needs, expectations and importance of their input. We view our role as a partnership in service provision, working with families and their expectations to develop and provide high quality professional long term care services in a safe, quality home-like environment for their loved ones. Our relationship is based on trust and transparency of services. We are committed to addressing the challenges inherent in such transitional decisions and we do our best to provide a loving home-like environment to our valued residents.
Rivercrest accommodations consist of a variety of semi-private and private rooms. With our flexibility of living environments, if you move to Rivercrest and wish to transfer to what you feel is a more preferential room, generally a reasonable turnaround option waitlist is available. Accommodation rates are set by Alberta Health and vary based only on whether the room is semi-private (2 residents to a room) or private. Rates include all meal services and professional support services including the provision of all medications under the guidance of outside physician services and professional pharmacists.
Hospice – We also provide under contract with Alberta Health Services what has been a highly valued Hospice service community resource. We have 6 private rooms allocated to a small, private area in our site where we aim to provide a calm and relaxing atmosphere for each of our clients. Our hospice clients have access to many of the same services as our continuing care residents such as recreation activities, rehabilitation programs, and meal services. There is also a dedicated family room and fold-out chairs in each room for visitors who wish to spend additional time with their loved ones.
We currently have availability, and are happy to schedule a tour at your convenience. For further information, please Contact Us. We look forward to welcoming you into our community.
Resident and Family Centered Care
We undertake great effort to develop a genuine understanding of who our residents and their families are, and what is most important to them. The transition to long term care can be challenging, both for residents and their families, and we aim to make it as stress-free as possible.
Our individualized approach enables us to tailor our care and services to your loved ones to ensure their overall health and wellbeing. We take the time to get to know each individual, and their preferences, in order to further develop goals and appropriate activities.
We also maintain an open-door policy to ensure regular feedback from residents and family members to better inform our services and care plans. Our interdisciplinary approach is focused on strength in numbers, and we conduct regular meetings with all team members to maintain regular communication and proactive planning.

For example, posters and pamphlets have been printed in large font to enhance visibility, and equipment has been installed throughout the centre to support those with limited mobility.
These are just a few of the improvements we’ve made, and we welcome any feedback that might help us continue to grow. Please Contact Us if you have suggestions about making Rivercrest Care Centre more accessible for all.
